Meán Fomhair/September 2017

Welcome back to a new school year! We hope you had a lovely summer and are all refreshed and ready for the year ahead! We would like to welcome all our new students to Scoil Mhuire and we hope you will be very happy here! We also welcome back our existing pupils for a busy and fun year ahead. Welcome also to our new teacher Ms. Collins. Congratulations to Ms. Joyce on the birth of her beautiful baby son Leo, and best wishes to Ms. Maloney who is expecting a baby in the very near future. CONGRATULATIONS to the Galway senior and minor hurlers on winning All-Ireland titles yesterday in Croke Park and best of luck to our neighbours Mayo in the All-Ireland Football Final.

Scoil Mhuire parents association would like to welcome everyone back especially new members to the school community. The PA is the structure through which parents in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children. We work with the principal, staff and the Board of Management to build effective partnership between the home and school. This positive and active partnership helps ensure our children get the best that primary education can offer. Through fundraising in the community we are able to provide the school with additional resources that aid the experience of our children. We look forward to providing information and resources to teachers, parents and students throughout this year and would greatly appreciate your participation in our fundraising activities. You can follow our Facebook Page Scoil Mhuire Moycullen

Parents Association which we will be updating with news and events throughout the year. The PA would like to invite past pupils to follow Facebook page Scoil Mhuire past pupils Moycullen. Any photos contributed greatly appreciated.

Prevention of Head Lice Please start the year proactively by checking your child's hair for head lice. We had several class outbreaks last year so this year we ask parents/guardians to please check their children's hair weekly. Should you find headlice please inform the school, anonymously if you wish, but quoting the class in question.

Swimming for 4th & 5th Class Swimming starts Thursday 7th Sept for Mrs. Donovan’s 4th Class, Ms O’Toole’s 5th Class & Ms Joyce/Ms Elliffe’s 5th Class. We need 2 parents to volunteer each week to accompany the children on the buses. Please add your name to the swimming rota which you will find outside the Oifig. Parents who are assisting need to be at the school by 10:15 a.m. Thanks to all who assisted last year.

Early Collections/Absences: If for any reason you need to pick your child up early please sign him/her out in the Oifig first. If you child is absent from school for any reason please fill in a Notification of Absence form when he/she returns to school (to be given to the child's teacher.)

Colourstrings We are very fortunate to be one of the few schools in county Galway to have access to the

Colourstrings Programme in our school. All children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class can avail of Colourstrings as part of their music education. We are very fortunate to have the same amazingly talented teachers again this year. Hazel & Ciara!

Our Buddy Bench! The Moycullen Men’s shed have kindly made us a Buddy Bench. If children are feeling lonely and a little adrift they can go to the buddy bench. The idea is that someone will come and ask if they want to play or chat. The Buddy Bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. Thanks to our Parents’Association for this wonderful idea and working with Moycullen’s Mens’ Shed to make it happen. Thanks to Ruairí Waters for his kind contribution!

CONTACT DETAILS AND UP-TO-DATE DETAILS: It is vitally important that the school’s database is up to date with your current contact details. Each child should have at least 2 emergency contact numbers on file should parents not be available. Also, please ensure that you submit a valid email address if you have not already done so, as we are trying to move towards email as our main medium of communication. If your child has any allergies or medical conditions of which we are not already aware, please inform us as soon as possible.
